Takt Time Calculator

Production rate planning for lean manufacturing and industrial engineering. Calculate the pace at which products must be completed to satisfy customer demand.

Formula

Takt Time = Net Available Time ÷ Customer Demand

Net Available Time = (Shift length − Breaks) × Shifts × OEE%

Effective Demand = Daily demand ÷ (1 − Scrap rate)

Rules of thumb

Cycle time should be 85–95% of takt to leave a buffer for variation.

Line balance efficiency = Sum of cycle times ÷ (Takt × Stations)

OEE world-class benchmark: ≥ 85%

Terminology
Takt timeThe rate at which finished products must be produced to meet customer demand
Cycle timeActual time to complete one unit at a station or process step
OEEOverall Equipment Effectiveness — Availability × Performance × Quality
Line balance efficiencyHow evenly work content is distributed across all stations
BottleneckThe station with the longest cycle time; limits overall throughput
