Production rate planning for lean manufacturing and industrial engineering. Calculate the pace at which products must be completed to satisfy customer demand.
Compare each station's cycle time against takt. Calculate takt time first on the Calculator tab.
Takt Time = Net Available Time ÷ Customer Demand
Net Available Time = (Shift length − Breaks) × Shifts × OEE%
Effective Demand = Daily demand ÷ (1 − Scrap rate)
Cycle time should be 85–95% of takt to leave a buffer for variation.
Line balance efficiency = Sum of cycle times ÷ (Takt × Stations)
OEE world-class benchmark: ≥ 85%
| Takt time | The rate at which finished products must be produced to meet customer demand |
| Cycle time | Actual time to complete one unit at a station or process step |
| OEE | Overall Equipment Effectiveness — Availability × Performance × Quality |
| Line balance efficiency | How evenly work content is distributed across all stations |
| Bottleneck | The station with the longest cycle time; limits overall throughput |
